Beit SHEKEL, located at 11 Yad Harutzim St. in Jerusalem, is the beating heart of the organization. A visit to Beit SHEKEL means an exciting opportunity to directly meet the employees, see their work, and understand how they become integrated in the general community.
Beit SHEKEL houses the Center for Rehabilitational Employment and Training, as well as SHEKEL's Gift Shop and administration offices. The Harutzim Bistro is a café at the entrance to the building where employees with special needs training in the restaurant industry are among the staff. The building's rooftop has a therapeutic garden, donated by the Zussman Family, for training people with disabilities for employment in gardening.
The Center for Rehabilitational Employment and Training is open from Sunday thru Thursday between 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Two hundred people with special needs are employed on its seven production lines, including the Candles and Soap Factory, a factory for packaging and handiwork, a sewing line, and the Gift Shop. The building also contains a computer training center, training people with special needs for supported employment in the business center by offering courses in different areas and on different levels; the "Bein Hashurot" graphic arts studio that includes people with special needs; and "SHEKEL College" that provides extracurricular and enrichment courses and activities from 4:00 PM until evening.
The Beit SHEKEL Center for Rehabilitational Employment and Training was constructed with support from The Legacy Heritage Fund, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, the National Insurance Institute/Bituach Leumi, and many generous individuals.
Visitors are warmly welcome by appointment. It's recommended to plan your visit between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and highly recommended to conclude your visit to SHEKEL with a great meal or coffee at the Harutzim Bistro.
