SHEKEL's Organizational Relationships

SHEKEL co-operates fully, both informally and formally, with government ministries, local authorities, public foundations such as the National Insurance Institute, Keren Shalem, Joint-Israel, The Jerusalem Foundation and many other social welfare organizations in Israel. For example: we offer cultural and vocational services to many people with disabilities living in housing units of other organizations. We also share our knowledge and experience at seminars and conferences open to colleagues from other organizations. Many of our cultural and leisure programs are joint ventures with other cultural organizations, museums, community centers and educational institutions. Our Accessibility Center projects are carried out together with government ministries, local authorities, businesses, organizations, educational and cultural institutions, synagogues and private companies. We frequently welcome overseas delegations under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from overseas NGO’s. Our Dept. of Volunteers is in contact with many organizations placing volunteers in Israel and abroad.

We differ from similar organizations in that we care for people of all ages, all disabilities and from all sectors of society. Originally operating primarily in Jerusalem, SHEKEL became a national organization a few years ago and is gradually expanding throughout Israel. Few organizations are so comprehensive, offering programs in all three major areas of life: housing, vocational and leisure activities. SHEKEL is one of the leading NGO’s in Israel, frequently participating in national committees and programs and working in full cooperation with local and national authorities.
