Transparency and Charity Rating

SHEKEL's 2016 Operational Budget is nearly NIS 59,825,000. 65% of funding is acquired via services SHEKEL provides for the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, municipalities (Jerusalem and elsewhere), and public foundations such as the Bituach Leumi National Insurance Agency, the Joint, the Shalem Foundation etc. In order to ensure activities, donations are required to fill the remaining 35% of the budget.

SHEKEL excels in utilizing a small, high-quality operations staff, and has strictly kept to overhead expenses of only 6.5% for many years. SHEKEL sees great importance in protecting these administration standards, making sure that funding for SHEKEL goes directly to the beneficiaries, not into any bloated managerial system.

SHEKEL owns two properties: a building on 11 Yad Harutzim St. in Jerusalem, which serves as a vocational rehabilitation center and provides rooms for treatment, training, and the organization's headquarters; and an apartment purchased from a generous donation from the Azrieli Foundation. The apartment serves as permanent living quarters for four women.

Midot's High Evaluation of SHEKEL

 

Midot is dedicated to promoting the professionalism of third sector organizations and influencing donor decisions by providing comprehensive evaluations of non-profit organizations that operate in Israel.


After an extensive evaluation over more than a year by Midot, we are pleased to report that SHEKEL received a high grade of 4+ out of 5. The findings appear on
Midot's site.

 

Since the report was published, SHEKEL has progressed even further in scope, quantity and quality (see About SHEKEL for more details).
