“Direct Approach” is the name of a new school for accessibility, founded jointly by SHEKEL Community Services for People with Special Needs’ Center for Accessibility and the Hadassah College’s Techelet Center. The school is jointly headed by Mrs. Clara Feldman, CEO of SHEKEL and Prof. Nava Ben-Zvi, Hadassah College President. The "Direct Approach" School will offer a range of educational programs in the field of accessibility for various groups, including basic courses, expert training and seminars and workshops on various accessibility issues. The first course, under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Infrastructure, to train licensed accessibility consultants, just opened at SHEKEL’s new Vocational Rehabilitation and Training Center in Jerusalem. It consists of 25 sessions of 8 hours each over 30 weeks for a total of 200 academic hours. The 30 participants include architects, engineers, teachers, social workers, speech therapists from all over Israel. The course coordinator is architect Yael Lahav from SHEKEL’s Center for Accessibilty staff. Participants come from all over Israel, from Haifa in the north to Beer-Sheva and Arad in the south. Graduates of the course will be licensed accessibility consultants. Other courses at various levels are being planned. Some, geared for experts, will be at a very high professional level with the intention of creating a top-level cadre of professional experts in the field of accessibility in Israel.
